Caracal

Caracals have bigger body compared to the domestic cats. They have long robust build, long legs and arms (legs are longer than their arms), big tufted triangle ears with 5cm black hair at the end. Their habitat is the plains and foothills in desert steppe and regions with appropriate plant coverage. They are nocturnal and are mainly active in dawn and dusk. They live individually and usually make their den in natural holes, under bushes, or stone holes and cover the floor by feather and wool. They are very agile and can jump up vertically and catch birds in the air. When facing a group of birds, they can hunt some of them very fast when on ground or on the air. When facing people or cars, they are very scared animals. They feed from small mammals sized from rats to chinkara, birds like bustard, partridge, poisonous snakes, and insects. They don’t need much water and can use water inside their body. Camera traps have recorded caracal in the area near Chahmil and Kamaranjir.
